What is HBOT?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or HBOT, is an amazingly simple treatment with huge results. Patients simply inhale oxygen while inside a lightly pressurized chamber. The pressure causes the oxygen to dissolve into the blood, plasma and tissues. HBOT allows oxygen to reach areas with low blood-flow caused by inflammation, injury or disease and stimulates the body’s natural healing ability.

HBOT is safe and the staff at the Washington Hyperbaric Therapy Center have years of experience working under the guidance of Drs. Vaiman and Grinberg.

Why it works

Hyperbaric Chamber Oxygen is an essential part of our physiology. We need oxygen to create new cells, fight bacteria, metabolize food and heal from injuries and illness. During a normal day, the average adult inhales approximately six pounds of oxygen, of which about 2 pounds are dissolved into the blood.

While inside the hyperbaric chamber, patients inhale pure oxygen at ten times the normal rate. In one hour inside the chamber, a patient inhales 2.4 pounds. Red blood cells are immediately filled with oxygen and the rest is rapidly absorbed into the blood. Within a few minutes, tissue oxygen levels are far above normal – a state that has been scientifically proven to promote healing.

Is it safe?

The greatest care has been taken to provide a safe and effective treatment experience for you and your family. Our technicians are expertly trained in the administration of oxygen therapy and continuously improve their skills through additional training and education.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is prescribed by your doctor and approved by the FDA. While some of the uses for HBOT are considered "off-label", your doctor can still suggest treatment for a wide variety of conditions. Much like many prescription drugs that are prescribed every day for conditions that the drug wasn’t originally intended to treat.
